With the revision of Book 1 completed and Book 2 now making steady progress, I’ve decided to provide little snippet teasers to keep you going until the releases are public. You can sign up for my newsletter at the bottom of this page.
‘Amanda? Are you awake?’ I hear Mom ask a little while later. I smile, because this time I understand that she’s using our silent speech.
‘Yes Mom, I am. I had the most amazing dreams last night. And Mom…’
‘I remember everything.’
‘Yes, everything. I didn’t realize before now what a large piece of me was missing. But now, with all of my memories restored, I feel so complete, so whole, but also very sad. But not in a depressed way – simply the kind of sadness that comes from losing someone you love, after you’ve had time to heal from that loss. Do you understand?’
She’s crying softly. ‘Yes sweetheart, I do understand and I am so very happy for you that you have recovered all of your memories. At first when you developed amnesia I was grateful, because you were in so much unbearable pain. But as time went on, I was very sad that you were missing that part of yourself. I was worried about whether or not you would ever gain it back.’
‘Mom, if there is any chance of getting her back, we will.’
Mom walks into my room and sits on my bed. I hug her.
“I know, Amanda,” she says.
“Mom, that’s another thing. I really appreciate the effort you have made to abide by my wishes despite the fact that no one else has. However, I am ready to accept who I am and the fact that my name is Amanae.”
She hugs me a little tighter. We’re both crying. “Thank you,” she whispers.
