With the revision of Book 1 completed and Book 2 now making steady progress, I’ve decided to provide little snippet teasers to keep you going until the releases are public. You can sign up for my newsletter at the bottom of this page.
“Incoming number five!” Tryaethus says quietly under her breath and then bursts into chuckles.
Before I have chance to ask her what she’s talking about a very bold, arrogant and somewhat pushy guy plants himself next to me. “Well hello beautiful! Where have you been all my life?!”
My eyes widen in surprise as I look at him, did he really just say that?! I’m trying very hard not to burst out in laughter.
“That’s right, sweetheart,” he says, misinterpreting the meaning of the look of surprise on my face. “My name is Mailian and we are going to have the time of our life tonight!”
He puts his hand around my waist and takes my right hand in his as he starts to dance me around the courtyard. I’m caught so completely by surprise that I automatically follow his lead, but now I’m really not sure what the hell to do. “Umm, Mailian, thank you, uh can you please stop dancing with me?”
He stops, but doesn’t let go of me. “You do like to dance?”
“Well, uh, yes, I do, but…” and he’s off again. “No, really, please, not exactly a good time for me.”
He stops again and says, “Well, I suppose I can wait until this evening, if I must. What time shall I pick you up, sugar?”
The next thing I see is Mailian sail across the courtyard and crumple to the floor after he hit the wall. I gasp and at the same time notice that a rather large crowd had gathered in a circle around us. I’m so embarrassed as I look around to figure out what had sent him flying.
Oh my god, Sylaera was right! “Maliat Caelsah!” I yell as I spot him storming off in the direction of Mailian, it had the desired effect, he stops dead in his tracks, but doesn’t turn to look at me and I can sense the tension running through him. “Care to tell me what exactly it is that you think you are doing?!” He doesn’t move or say anything for at least a full minute. Eventually he visibly relaxes, takes a deep breath and slowly turns to look at me.
“Well,” he says, with a grin, “I just thought perhaps I might go and help Mailian peel himself off the floor. He kind of looks like he might need some help, wouldn’t you say, my dear?”
I look at Mailian and can’t disagree with that point, but something tells me that Caelsah’s intentions are anything but helpful. My eyes narrow as I look at him. “I don’t suppose you could have possibly had anything to do with him getting that way?” I ask with one eyebrow raised. I feel like my mother as I stand there with my arms crossed, my head tilted and tapping my foot. But I’m also thinking how it was nice to have learnt about the fast healing process of Elves, so I don’t actually have to be particularly worried about Mailian’s condition.
Caelsah opens his eyes wide with mock innocence, but before he can even think about uttering a lie I say, “Never mind, don’t answer that – just help him up and be nice!” Caelsah continues to grin as he saunters over to Mailian, who looks a little disoriented.
Caelsah reaches out his hand to Mailian to offer him a hand up, as he leans in close to him he whispers at a barely audible level, “Touch her again and I’ll kill ya.”
My eyes widen in surprise for two reasons at that moment, the first being that I can’t believe he has just said that. The second being that I can’t believe that I heard him! But I manage to recompose myself before he turns around to face me again. This isn’t something I’m about to deal with in public.
