A cause for passion

Bloganuary day 16! Today’s prompt is:

What is a cause you’re passionate about and why?

I can’t say that there are any writing-specific causes that I’m involved with or passionate about. But if I go with the broader definition of a cause, something I am passionate about is helping beginners.

Again, not just in writing, but in any area that I have some skills. Something I learned at a young age is that you don’t have to be a master at something to be able to help others. You just need to know something they don’t. I’ve also found that teaching is one of the best ways to learn.

So when it comes to writing, I do my research, I absorb the knowledge, I try to put it into practice as much as I can. But it’s when I’m able to share what I’ve learned with others that two important things happen.

First, is the amazing feeling it creates when you’ve helped someone else have an aha moment. It’s one of the best warm and fuzzy feelings going.

Second, is when you realize how much better of a grasp you have of the topic after you’ve explained it to the point of comprehension for someone else.

I’ve had the pleasure of having these moments regarding story structure, character arcs, writing styles, voice and much more. I’m still not an expert. But each time I’m able to help someone else with these topics, it’s a double win-win that I will continue to do over and over.

So that’s my own, personal, writing-related cause that I’m passionate about.

Is there a writing-related cause that you have a personal passion for?
